Labor Day Weekend at Niagara Falls
This is our fourth trip to Niagara Falls in the past 8 years, as testament to the popularity of this destination.
Saturday, September 1: MOUNT VERNON will travel on Amtrak's Empire Service train 281. Depart New York (Pennsylvania Station) 10:15 am; arrive Niagara Falls 7:50 pm. Parked at Niagara Falls NY through Tuesday morning September 4th.
Sunday, September 2: Parked at Niagara Falls. Explore the world famous falls. If you have a passport, you can cross the international border into Canada, to see the falls from the Ontario side. Consider a sidetrip to Toronto, travelling by Via Rail Canada, GO Transit or rental car.
Monday, September 3: Parked at Niagara Falls: Continue your exploration of the falls and the surrounding area.
Tuesday, September 4: MOUNT VERNON will travel on Amtrak's Empire Service train 284. Depart Niagara Falls 7:05 am; arrive New York (Pennsylvania Station) 4:40 pm.

We plan to participate in AAPRCO's 35th annual convention and the Chattanooga Limited convention special train. Enjoy good food & drink as we travel through some very scenic parts of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Sunday, September 23: For the convenience of our passengers holding bedroom accomodations, we anticpate that MOUNT VERNON will be available for occupany at Washington Union Station on Sunday afternoon, September 23.
Monday, September 24: Washington Union Station to Spencer NC on the Norfolk Southern route of Amtrak's Crescent. Breakfast and lunch onboard. Tour the North Carolina Transportation Museum. Dinner is a BBQ in the roundhouse of the former Southern Railway Spencer Shops. Parked overnight at Spencer NC.
Tuesday, September 25: Spencer NC to Asheville NC via the Old Fort Loops on Norfolk Southern. We are high up in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the route of the former Southern Railway Skyland Special. Breakfast and lunch onboard. A late afternoon private tour of Biltmore, followed by a cocktail reception and dinner at Biltmore. Parked overnight at Asheville NC.
Wednesday, September 26: Asheville NC to Chattanooga TN via Knoxville TN on Norfolk Southern. More mountain scenery in the vicinity of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Breakfast, lunch and dinner onboard. Parked overnight on the grounds of the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, the former Terminal Station.
Thursday, September 27 through Saturday, September 29: Parked at Chattanooga TN on the grounds of the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel. Continental breakfast available onboard each day. AAPRCO convention events each day.
Sunday, September 30: Chattanooga TN to Roanoke VA via Knoxville TN and Bristol VA. Breakfast, lunch and dinner onboard. Parked overnight at Roanoke, in the former Virginian Railway yard.
Monday, October 1: Our early afternoon departure provides you with time to tour the O. Winston Link Museum in the former N&W Railway passenger station and the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Roanoke VA to Washington Union Station, via Shenandoah Valley, Front Royal and Manassas. Breakfast, lunch and dinner onboard. Due to our late evening arrival at Washington, passengers holding bedroom accommodations may remain onboard until Tuesday morning, October 2.

Since the Chattanooga Limited is an AAPRCO sponsored special train, all passengers must be members of AAPRCO, or the guest of an AAPRCO member. AAPRCO associate membership is $90 per year; information on the benefits of membership and how to join AAPRCO are available here.
The fares noted above do not include your personal registration for the AAPRCO convention at Chattanooga. The convention registration fee and additional fees for any convention special events are payable directly to AAPRCO.
A Trip to New Orleans LA - The Big Easy?
We are considering a trip from Washington DC to New Orleans LA in mid-October. This trip may be part of a positoning move in advance of a prospective charter from New Orleans LA ro Oakland CA; the charter may or may not happen. LET US KNOW IF THIS TRIP INTERESTS YOU.
Friday, October 12: MOUNT VERNON will travel on Amtrak's Crescent train 19. Depart Washington DC 6:30 pm. Dinner served onboard.
Saturday, October 13: Arrive New Orleans 7:32 pm. Parked at New Orleans.
Sunday, October 14: Parked at New Orleans.
Monday, October 15 (Columbus Day holiday): Parked at New Orleans.
IF MOUNT VERNON IS NOT CHARTERED FOR A TRIP LATER THAT WEEK, THEN WE RETURN TO WASHINGTON DC:
Tuesday, October 16: MOUNT VERNON will travel on Amtrak's Crecent, train 20. Depart New Orleans 7:00 am.
Wednesday, October 17: Arrive Washington DC 9:53 am. Trip concludes.
IF MOUNT VERNON IS CHARTERED FOR A TRIP LATER THAT WEEK, OUR TRIP WILL TERMINATE AT NEW ORLEANS LA:
Tuesday, October 16: Parked at New Orleans.
Wednesday, October 17: Parked at New Orleans. Passengers must vacate the car by 12 noon. Passengers must make their own arrangements for travel from New Orleans LA back to Washington DC or any destination of their choosing.
The estimated fare for the roundtrip from Washington to New Orleans and return is $1500 per person for double occupancy of a bedroom.
The estimated fare for the one way trip from Washington to New Orleans is $750 per person for double occupany of a bedroom.
